Ely has 1,776 residents spread over 1.44 square miles, which is the size where a weekly route works well. Enough homes to justify a regular visit day, few enough that the day does not slip. Density runs about 1,229 people per square mile, so most yards are a normal residential lot, usually fenced, usually walkable in a few minutes if you actually cover it twice. Our Cedar Rapids crew works out of 7.7 miles away, so this is home turf and a same-week start is normally no trouble.
A typical Ely yard takes one grid pass and then a second from the other direction, which is what catches the ones that blend into the grass. Gates are latched behind us and you get a text when we are clear.
Ely homes can book weekly, twice-a-week, bi-weekly or a one-time cleanup, and the same crew covers commercial properties in Linn County: HOAs, apartment grounds and any business with a pet-friendly patch of grass.
The Ely figures above come from Wikidata (Q1144361), and the 7.7 miles is straight-line distance to our Cedar Rapids crew rather than a drive time.
